January Meeting Minutes

NENa Zoom Meeting. Jan. 5th 2022, 7:00 PM


After some audio issues and switching to a new zoom meeting link we had 21 people attend the first meeting of 2022.


Andrew Robinson (President) opened the meeting and welcomed everyone.


Environmental Committee Update

Planning/Traffic Committee Update

Herman Turkstra

  • Pier 8 and Jamesville documents are available on the city website

  • Herman has invited Brian Hollingsworth from the city of Hamilton to the next Traffic committee meeting which will be held on Wed. Jan. 19th. 7:00 PM via zoom. Brian will discuss the John St. bike lane and other North End Traffic related issues. Herman will confirm the meeting and Curtis Biehler will coordinate advertising and requests for traffic related questions.

  • Herman also suggested we could invite the Police to discuss the encampments and what happened to the people after leaving. There was also discussion about what is the difference between living in a tent/car/boat. Also it seems people are using the West Harbour Go station to live in as well.

  • Andrew suggested he could talk to the police about a foot patrol presence in the neighbourhood.

  • Pier 8/Jamesville development will start this year. Pier 8 marketing office before March 1st.

  • Question of poor air quality during construction.

  • Concern over Jamesville development and noise bylaw.

  • Jon Davy suggested at the next Traffic meeting an item should be truck routes for Jamesville construction.

Sunset Gardens Update Allyson Wenzowski

  • 100 signs have been distributed to people across the neighbourhood. To get a sign contact Allyson at awenzowski1@cogeco.ca or 905-379-7353 with your address and she can deliver one to you.

  • Discussion about Bill Curran’s rebuttal to Sheri’s article in the Breezes. Sheri/Allyson and Sandra will put together another article for the Breezes in support of the garden.

  • Discussion seems to be about Affordable Housing vs. the garden.

Financial Update Curtis Biehler

  • Only transaction was a $3.00 monthly bank account fee. Balance is $609.20

  • Andrew will check to see if he has received an invoice from The Breezes.

Other Business:

  • Mary St. bridge - falling into disrepair. Area around the bridge has been neglected for years.

  • Welcome Signs - James St. and McNab street knocked down.

  • Bay St. rainwater gutter is unfinished.

  • Several people will reach out to the Parks, Public works, and our councilor about these issues.

  • Suggestion of a calling/email group for small requests.

  • T-Shirts are still available

Vaccination Clinics

  • The Centre on Barton is accepting walk ins

  • David Braley Centre has 100 spots per day.

  • West Harbour Pharmacy may have openings as well.

Motion to end the meeting passed unanimously.

The next meeting will be Wed. Feb. 2nd at 7:00 PM via Zoom.
