Meeting Minutes – December 6, 2023 (Meeting held on Zoom)
Opening
• Andrew Robinson (President) welcomed everyone and outlined guidelines
Review of past minutes
• Motion of acceptance (Andrew), seconded (John) - Approved
Environmental Committee Update / Discussion – Jon (Chair)
• Meeting occurred between John, Cameron & Metrolink to discuss options to lessen noise and air pollution into community
• CN invited but not able to attend due to representative having covid
• New track installation (to Niagara) should remove idling around GO station as it will now be a stop not the end of the line where trains sit
• New trees were discussed / requested during meeting for shade and to create neighbourhood market area around James & McNab
• CN will still be using the area for a shunting yard
Planning & Traffic Committee Update / Discussion – Herman (Chair)
• Review of motions and topics discussed during our November meeting
• Herman continues to discuss / coordinate with the City and Cameron about getting NENA or a representative as part of distribution list so NENA is involved, informed and not reactionary • Cameron has released a report / information about the future of the Waterfront Trust – see attached letter
• Jamesville redevelopment requires finalization from CN before moving ahead, hearing at Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) set for December 20, 2023
• At the next Ward 2 Association meeting NENA will discuss with other associations what involvement or input they have for City decisions
• Cameron has made attending meetings and providing input difficult for people due to restrictions and then labelling people as violent
• Freedom of information requests are now being released and people are understanding the fully history and process of the HATS project
Financial Update – Curtis (Chair)
• No current income only bank fees out going
• Receipts sent to City to have approved grant funding released
Community Engagement Update / Discussion
• No new update regarding community engagement
• Always looking for input / help posting community information
Other Business / Updates
• NENA wants to congratulate the Northender of Year award winners and thank the Breeze’s for organizing and hosting the event
• Cameron has posted a Ward 2 – Impact Report on his website (ward2hamilton.ca/resources/reports/)
• The northend is sometimes seen as adversarial but often many associations are as they work for a stronger community
• Everyone wants infill and to reduce sprawl but also wants communities to remain the same while not having development in your backyard
• The current Peir development is understood to have 8 parking spaces for every 10 units • NENA is looking at the possibility of holding in person meetings again
• NENA will be opening Board positions for anyone interested, who wants to be involved or have input
• Welcome Inn and other community agencies are always looking for volunteers not only around Christmas
